The Burn Journals

          Brent Runyon is a 14 year old boy living in Falls Church, Virginia. He is somewhat of a bad boy who often gets into trouble at school. He has a history of depression and he has attempted suicide several times. When a more serious offense with the possibility of expulsion from school comes to light, Brent decides to attempt suicide yet again. To do so, he douses a bathrobe in gasoline and then sets it on fire while wearing it in his bathtub.

          The Burn Journals is a collection of memories of Brent's intensive recovery from the suicide attempt to his first day back at school after nearly a year. Although written as an adult, the book is from 14 year old Brent's point of view. Brent struggles with accepting his new appearance, upsetting his family, doing daily activities, and remembering why he did it all in the first place.
